Prices for Wii titles hit AU$ 109 down under

WiiWhile the Wii will definitely be the most affordable next-generation console on the market this year, Australian gamers are facing another potential hazard on their road towards fulfilling their console-buying urges: skyrocketing software prices.

The majority of launch titles for Nintendo’s next-gen console are set to break the traditional pricing barrier down under. Titles from Activision, Atari and Ubisoft will carry retail prices of a whopping AU$ 109. Electronic Arts will be giving its titles a AU$ 99 suggested retail price while THQ has yet to deliver details.

The publishers stress, however, that while their recommendations for their titles’ retail prices will be in place, the final word regarding pricing remains in the retailers’ hands when the Wii’s launch date arrives.

Nintendo has yet to make their view of this issue publicly and officially known. The pricing details for first-party games have yet to be revealed too. What is known is that their own Wii Remote will go for AU$ 69.95, the Classic Controller and Nunchuk attachment will sell for AU$ 29.95, while the Wii Play bundle, containing the game and a controller, will be available for AU$ 79.95. These are also noticeably more expensive than the SRP for these same items in Japan.

This is definitely a hard blow to the Australian gaming community. We hope that better news regarding the pricing of Wii titles down under will surface in the coming days, so keep checking QJ for further details on this. If you want to share your opinions regarding this rather expensive topic, don’t hesitate to leave a comment.
