PS2DEV Hosts The Fourth Creation Game Competition

PS@DEVPS2DEV has hosted The Fourth Creation game competition which called for homebrew games for the PS2 and the PSP to be sent in. It seems a lot of people are labouring hard to make this summer very much worthwhile, and contests like this and our very own Summer Homebrew Competition does make the oh-so-many leisure time pass like a breeze.

The winning entries for PS2DEV’s competition will receive a PSP or a PS2 donated by people from gamefreax. Here’s a list of the entries (PSP) for The Fourth Creation 2006 game competition:

Jump Gunnar, Jump from PSPSMM

This 2D platform game let’s you control of what hardhat describes as your “seemingly average every day sheep”. But believe me, Gunnar the sheep is no ‘average everyday sheep’! He does run and jump as well as the ordinary sheep but he walks with his two hind legs (an image reminiscent of George Orwell’s Animal Farm) and has a gun to protect himself. Meeku’s Quest – Beyond the Gateway for PSP by illfoundedmind Production Studio

Meeku’s Quest – Beyond the Gateway will hopefully fill the void of decent homebrew RPG titles for the PSP, and follows the adventures of a boy that must rise to to find the truth behind the make up of his world in order to save it from sure destruction. This homebrew’s demo was released here.

Break-IN by OmegaGames

This one’s a Breakout clone, only this time the paddle has been removed. To create a different game experience, Break-In will have the blocks rotating around the ball. This different style also allows players to enjoy the game by using just the left and right buttons, seeing the board spin clockwise and counterclockwise. For more info regarding this one, click here.

PSPTris

Aside from being able to play the classic kind of Tetris that we have grown to love and cherish, now you could also play two other games – color and original. Color is of course something you already know. In this game, you have to match 2 or more balls in the same color. Read more about this game here.

Droplets from Drakonite/Makeshift Development

A game that’s dominantly colored blue ocean and that displays sea creatures in the backdrop. The gameplay is not bad as well. Your objective of the game is to clear the blobs (those water droplets) off the board. To do this, you’d need to selectively fill certain blobs until they burst, causing their droplets to go floating towards neighboring blobs causing them to burst as well. For more Droplets info, click here.

There you have it, I know we won’t have the final say which of these homebrewed games will win, but still, it’s nice to give each of them a go to see which we personally think is the best.
