A watchdog group has slammed a PlayStation 3 ad for its “underlying tone of violence” after investigating complaints about several PS3 ads. According to the Channel 4 news report, the ad in question featured a character called Kovac brandishing a knife alongside a caption that said “This is living.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said that the online ad breached rules relating to responsibility and violence. The tone of violence in the ad could reportedly be “seen to condone or glamorize violence“. Sony has been asked by the ASA to change the content of future ads to avoid a repeat of this issue.

The online ad was shown on Yahoo! and BT. Yahoo! has said that the ad was meant for registered users over 18 years old and who had given their birth dates during the account registration process. Yahoo! had also asked Sony to tone down the ad since it showed weapons.

Complaints about other PS3 ads have been rejected by the ASA.
