PSP “upgrade/fix/2/lite/insert name for new model here” rumors continue to spread

With events like E3, and Sony Gamers Day in the horizon, PlayStation Portable “lite” rumors are abundant. Remember the one we posted sometime ago about the new model having an improved screen, a faster UMD drive (they’re sticking with UMD, big surprise), internal storage, etc.? Well apparently the rumors are so abundant that  even Next Generation is posting about it. They write:

Oft-muttered rumors of a new PSP are once again in circulation. Sony is, according to industry tittle tattle, definitely working up a smaller lighter version of its handheld. Questions such as ‘when’ and ‘what will they do about storage’ aren’t finding answers right now though the company is sticking with UMD.

Our take on the “smaller, lighter” PSP-lite rumor? Smaller, good idea, lighter, yep, better idea. A resultant smaller screen though? Not such a good idea (thank god for the “gorgeous screen” tidbit in that other rumor). The large screen is one of the better things about the PSP and distinguishes it from other handhelds. Our wish list? Simple: longer battery life and a second analog stick.

Of course, given Sony’s initiative to re-market the PSP (dude get your own), even their lowering of the platform’s price, we do not expect to see rumored upgrade to come out anytime soon. Of course, Sony’s surprised us before.
