SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection: 40 classic Genesis games in one package

Mega Man 9 must have revived the retro spirit in Sega. The studio will be resurrecting several of its classic games from the Sega Genesis on both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, including the first three Sonic the Hedgehog games on the platform.

The studio will be resurrecting several of its classic games from the Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive, if you prefer) on both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, including the first three Sonic the Hedgehog games released on the classic platform.

According to the press release, the SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection is described as “Sega’s glorious past […] gathered in one colossal collection.” And quite a collection it is; it will include 40 first-party games from Sega, which includes:

• Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3
• Columns
• Alien Storm
• Ecco the Dolphin
• Space Harrier,
• Streets of Rage 1, 2 and 3

The collection will also be able to output the games in 720p with higher resolution graphics for HD TVs. The collection will be released in early 2009.
