Nintendo Wii owners who are looking for content that’s a little more hardcore in their console are eagerly anticipating Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture‘s upcoming action title No More Heroes. The premise of becoming an assassin never gets old, and wielding a beam katana with a Wii Remote is proving to be a popular idea. We’ve got some new screens from Famitsu to exhibit the latest in No More Heroes.

Set in the obviously fictional city of Santa Destroy, California, players will play as the young Travis Touchdown who by some stroke of luck wins himself a bad-ass beam katana in an internet raffle. Seeing the weapon’s potential for slicing people, Travis decides to become a hitman and takes out fellow hired gun Helter Skelter in the process. The feat earns him the recognition as the 11th best hitman in the world, and now Travis finds himself in a situation that’s a little sticky to say the least.

No More Heroes borrows some sandbox elements popularized by the notorious Grand Theft Auto titles by Rockstar Games and lets players approach missions in their own non-linear way. Comparisons have been drawn between drawn between No More Heroes and Suda51’s other acclaimed work Killer7, prompting some to think that this upcoming Nintendo Wii game is a sequel. Goichi Suda, however, makes it clear that the two projects are not related to each other. Where Killer7 delved on political issues, No More Heroes will carry a more social undertone. We’ll keep you posted for more.
