Sony’s response on Kutaragi’s “We don’t care”

Ken KutaragiAsked whether PS3 will be able to outsell Xbox 360 and Wii, Sony Computer Entertainment’s President and CEO Ken Kutaragi was reported to have answered, “We don’t care”. After reading this report, we can’t wait to verify if this news is true. To our surprise, its true. We found out that the interview transpired between Three Speech and Sony’s head honcho. Well, as a whole, the interview discussed some important aspects regarding PS3 which is due to debut on November 17 this year for American territories and November 11 this year in Japan. But there are some parts in the interview that makes us admire Kutaragi’s positive outlook for the PS3 despite some negative publicity surrounding it. And one of these is his bold statement, “We don’t care.”

When Three Speech asked Sony to comment on Kutaragi’s response, they speculated that maybe he meant that the company’s plan for PS3 will not be affected, in any way, by their competitors’ business strategy or activities. In addition to that, Kutaragi is also adamant that PS3’s Blu-ray feature would be able to beat HD-DVD which he said, “has more capabilities”.

Looking back, Kutaragi’s frankness may not be a surprise for those who are following Sony’s activities after announcing that the company is working on a new PlayStation console. In fairness to Kutaragi, the man has always been honest on Sony’s developments for the PlayStation 3 console. Three Speech even gave a positive comment on the man, “Despite his incredibly lofty status, Kutaragi in person is surprisingly approachable and open.” Kutaragi’s strong remarks may raise some eyebrows but then, to be able to be positive amidst all the negativity bothering you is no easy task. We just hope that despite the bad news of PS3’s launch date being pushed back on March next year for PAL territories, Sony would be able to deliver a high-standard console that can satisfy customers’ expectations.
