Space out with Project Sylpheed intro and “Orbital Assault” vids

Ah, space shooters. From the olden days of yore when Gyruss was cooler than cool, to the time when Gradius taught us the universal up-up, down-down, left-right, left-right, B, A, Start code, all the way up to when Star Fox: Command expanded the genre’s orbits to multiplayer mode… A major portion of the gaming community is always open to more space shooters.

What started out as an arcade-style space shooter is now travelling in light speed to a game of full freedom in 3D space. Project Sylpheed is Square Enix‘s take on the space shooter genre, and it’s looking (for lack of a better term) interstellar.

The cinematics of the opening trailer and the “Orbital Assault” trailer below show us how action-packed the game can get. While everything around you is exploding and you stand the risk of colliding with another ship, you can’t help but be absorbed into a trance. All the colors and sound effects really suck you in like a black hole.

Galactic puns aside, let’s cut to the chase and watch the trailers now, shall we?
