Super Mario Galaxy details revealed in Official Nintendo Magazine

Super Mario Galaxy details revealed in Official Nintendo Magazine - Image 1Official Nintendo Magazine message boards administrator Chris recently got some quality ‘me’ time with the world’s favorite plumber and his next-gen adventure on the Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, and in a very cosy Q&A session in the magazine’s boards, revealed quite a ton of details about this year’s most highly-anticipated platformer.

Of course, we here at QJ.NET are here to give you the skinny on just what went down in that session, in neat bullet-point format. Here they are, in no particular order:

  • The controls are easy to get used to, much like the controls of Super Mario 64.
  • It feels like a true Mario game, more than Sunshine did. Lots of goombas walking around helped.
  • The new Princess is not Peach in disguise, as she talks about helping Mario find his love.
  • The “Galaxies” background works well – not only are you introduced to different levels, but also add gravity to the mix.
  • Multiplayer functions are only relegated to taking over the Wiimote pointing duties at the moment.
  • The levels were designed very well, but it’s too early to tell.
  • Picking up star shards is easier with the Wiimote pointer, rather than running over to pick them all up.
  • Bee Mario is lots of fun, and enables you to find secret areas and shards.
  • Firing shards at enemies work well in stunning them.
  • The levels look and play more well-planned than those in Super Mario Sunshine.
  • Graphics look just like they do in the trailers: beautiful.
  • No castle as a central hub as of yet, missions are selectable from a basic menu.
  • Gameplay feels very similar to the first games.
  • Super Mario Galaxy looks great at 480p.
  • No sign of Yoshi, Toad or Luigi.
  • No glaring bugs or glitches found.
  • Mushrooms increase your life bars.
  • The game is horribly FUN.

That’s quite a long list, and it’s getting even longer at the actual thread where we gleaned the facts from. While we remind you that this is Chris’ own opinions about the missions he played, the fact that he’s admittedly a very harsh Mario game critic and he’s made more positive points rather than negative points about his time with the game certainly means one thing: Super Mario Galaxy is going to be something special.

That’s all for this update, and you should check out the thread for more info via the Read link we’ve supplied below. The thread itself is still open, so if you have any nagging questions about the game, simply register and get cracking with those queries.
