Super Smash Bros. Brawl not working? Nintendo knows. - Image 1 We’ve been receiving word that some Super Smash Bros. Brawl discs aren’t working, so we recently decided to see if Nintendo knew something about it. A quick check of Nintendo’s support site reveals the problem at hand, and it has something to do with both your Wii and the disc itself.

The repair form for Super Smash Bros. Brawl notes,

Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive. Nintendo has specialized cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem. (Please do NOT attempt to clean the lens yourself, as you may damage the system.)

Yes folks. If you live in the a US territory or in Canada, and your copy won’t play, you’re going to need to get that Wii cleaned up. Just fill up the repair form located at the link below, and you should be on your way to getting that Wii ready for play. Unfortunately, it means you’ll have to spend some time living without your Wii, but it’s a small price to pay for Super Smash Bros. goodness.
