Tekken 6 101: Know your Tekken characters, plus a few screens

Devil Jin - Image 1Tekken isn’t always about juggling and death-combo-ing your opponent, sometimes it’s just cool to sit back and read about the character profiles and why on earth they decided to take a beating in the King of Iron Fist Tournament. For Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion (PS3, Xbox 360), Namco Bandai just released some fresh new info on some of our well-loved (and hated) characters about how they made it to the new tournament. And oh, a few new screens too!

Tekken isn’t always about juggling and death-combo-ing your opponent, sometimes it’s just cool to sit back and read about the character profiles and why on earth they decided to take a beating in the King of Iron Fist Tournament. For Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion (PS3, Xbox 360), Namco Bandai just released some fresh new info on some of our well-loved (and hated) characters about how they made it to the new tournament.

Xiaoyu vs. Christie - Image 1 Christie Monteiro

After failing to win the fifth King of Iron Fist Tournament, this sexy Brazilian Capoeira artist is still finding a way to save her ailing grandfather. Both Eddy and her grandfather disappeared, and her search takes straight into the Mishima Zaibatsu, where she enters the King of Iron Fist Tournament once more to find out more about her loved ones’ whereabouts.

Kazuya vs. Jin - Image 1 Devil Jin

Although the Jin has been fighting like a Mishima since Tekken 4, Devil Jin retains the old Kazama fighting style that he got from his mom. Jin Kazama’s devil Jin is still kicking in, and it gives his old man, Kazuya, a nice little thank you for the inheritance on the screenshot. As far as the Bloodline Rebellion title goes, it’s unclear what kind of “rebellion” will take place. Will Jin finally be rid of the Mishima devil curse? Namco Bandai isn’t saying anything on the subject.

Dragunov vs. Bryan - Image 1 Sergei Dragunov

He may look old, but this cold Russian Commando is only 26. His orders were to seek out and capture the organism known as the “Devil” in the fifth tournament. Naturally, he failed big time. Civil unrest in Russia followed shortly after, and it was believed to be caused by the Mishima Zaibatsu. Now he joins the King of Iron Fist Tournament 6 and he’s out for some Mishima Blood.

Paul vs. Hwoarang - Image 1 Hwoarang

Does Hwoarang have a full name? Or is this some kind of street nickname? Anyway, the Korean Tae Kwon Do specialist got roughed up pretty bad last time by his rival, Jin, who went Devil mode on him and whooped his ass big time. Frustrated by this new defeat, Hwoarang begs his master, Baek, for more power so he can take on Jin even in his demonic form.

King vs. Xiaoyu - Image 1 King

The masked Mexican pro-wrestler became buddies with Craig Marduk in the last tournament. That was, of course, after beating each other half to death. That’s just how these fighters form bonds, I guess. Anyway, King was invited by Marduk to join Tekken 6 to find Marduk’s assailant – an Armor King imposter. Now he’s on the trail of this Armor King wannabe and get some payback for attacking his new-found friend.

Marduk vs. Bryan - Image 1 Craig Marduk

I never knew that ol’ Marduk here was Australian. I guess I’m too busy finding away to counter him than more about his profile. He’s one of two fighters I have trouble defending against, the other being Bryan Fury (who conveniently is in the same screenshot). That Vale Tudo style of his is well-rounded and hard to read. Anyway, after losing to King in Tekken 5, Marduk teams up with the masked wrestler to beat the living crap out of the pseudo-Armor King. Together, they enter the sixth in the hopes of once again encountering the attacker.

Go Nina! Kick Bryan's ass!! - Image 1 Nina Williams

Ah yes, my baby’s here. This cryo-freezing assassin from Ireland still isn’t aging, but her moves sure are getting slower. In the sixth tourney, Jin hires Nina to be part of his special forces, since he’s assumed command of the Zaibatsu. As the tension between Mishima and G Corporation heats up, Nina enters the tournament to eliminate all threats to Jin Kazama.
