Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur IV: Confirmed News and Some Rumors

tekkenThis just in from the Confirmed News Department: Daisuke Uchiyama, the Chief Producer at namco/4467″ id=”tag” title=””>Bandai Namco confirmed that Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur IV are already in development.

This we heard through the netvine: Info is still scant on the two upcoming titles but we heard Tekken 6 is bypassing the arcade route and heading straight for the PS3. More buzzing suggests that Soul Calibur IV would follow Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur III to the consoles, most likely next-gen consoles. While Soul Calibur III has been voted most likely to pop up on the Xbox 360, Soul Calibur IV could be it, instead.

That’s all we have for now and we’d rather wait for concrete details to come along before making further statements. But in case you’re not familiar with any of the games we’ve been talking about, here are a few details about them:

Tekken (Iron Fist) is a series of fighting games developed and produced by Namco originally as an arcade game. Later it was ported to the PS and PS2 consoles. To date, there are five released Tekken games: Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken 4, and Tekken 5. Two variants of Tekken 5 (5.1 and Dark Ressurection) were released as arcade games in 2005. A PSP version of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is due sometime this September 2006.

Soul Calibur is part of the Soul fighting games series which includes Soul Blade, Soul Calibur, Soul Calibur II, and Soul Calibur III. Originally an arcade game, Soul Calibur was eventually ported for the Sega Dreamcast. The game’s major storyline is the battle between Soul Calibur, the holy sword, and the evil sword Soul Edge.
