THQ to experiment with RTS for consoles

Warhammer on the Wii? - Image 1THQ, the company that publishes Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000 for the PC, has recently made it known that they’re currently working on real-time strategy interfaces for consoles, and add that in their opinion, the next-gen consoles are ready for them. IGN reports that THQ Executive Vice President of Worldwide Publishing Kelly Flock has informed them that they “are doing R&D on real-time strategy console interfaces.”

RTS games for the console haven’t fared so well, this is due to the fact that PC versions of the genre offer a better control interface. The keyboard and mouse just feel a whole lot more intuitive for gameplay situations where a lot of micromanagement is needed.

Perhaps they’ve managed to come up with an RTS interface that rivals the one featured in The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth 2? Or perhaps they managed to brainstorm a system wherein the game takes advantage of the SIXAXIS and the Wiimote? However their system will turn out, THQ will have to ensure that theirs allows for better unit selection and army micromanagement for their new RTS system to sell.

Supreme Commander for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii? Here’s to hoping.
