TMNT, Ice Climber hit Australian Virtual Console

Nintendo‘s Australian Virtual Console service has been updated with two more NES titles, bumping up the total game lineup to 50 titles.

The first new title is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This single-player beat-em-up game lets players switch between each of the four turtles as they try and save April from Shredder, as is usually the case. If you’ve played this game before, you’ll no doubt remember the insanely hard Hudson River stage. I went through three NES consoles (smashed two of ’em due to frustration) and I still didn’t get through that stage. Grrr.

The second title is a lesser-known one: Ice Climber. It didn’t get that much attention when it was first released (although it was the third NES title I owned), but its parka-clad main characters Nana and Popo have been catapulted into the limelight thanks to Super Smash Bros. Melee. Ice Climber is a vertically scrolling platformer, and the goal is to get to the top of a series of icy mountains.
