Torque Engine ready for licensing on the Wii

GarageGames - Image 1Independent game developers looking to make some headway on the Nintendo Wii console will be interested to know that GarageGames has announced the availability of licenses for its proprietary Torque game engine.

The Torque game engine allows developers to use a complete set of tools that will allow the generation of graphics and effects as well as support for the innovative Wiimote control scheme. According to GarageGames, the same tool will allow independent game makers to get their work in the Wii Shop Channel so they can  enjoy both recognition and revenues for their efforts.

“Torque for Wii makes it easier to focus on creating high-quality experiences for the Wii, rather than implementing the technologies and tools it takes to just get started,” says GarageGames CEO Josh Williams as he emphasizes the fact that every developer has ideas that will make games on the platform more fun.

Independent game development has increased in popularity in the new age of gaming as more and more people have found themselves expressing their ideas on the new medium. Big game companies are starting to recognize the value of the indy game community and have launched various tools to spur their growth.
