Ubisoft announces Open Season

Ubisoft has announced the development of Open Season, as a tie-in with the first animated motion picture from Sony. Both will be released in Fall, with the game, out on “all available gaming platforms”, coming out roughly 2 weeks before the movie enters theaters on September 29.

Now, before you dismiss this game as another piece of license cash-in junk, be aware that it’s being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the same studio which was/is responsible for games like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, King Kong and the upcoming Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Rainbow Six: Vegas.

In Open Season, domesticated grizzly Boog and the mule deer Elliot find themselves lost in the forest just before hunting season. The game has players controlling the two animals, fending off the hunters with a variety of inventive weapons – skunk bombs, rabbits and acorn-firing squirrels are only some of them. Multiplayer modes will ensure even more fun, with the ability to challenge friends and jump into four-player minigames.
