Uh oh – Arena point trouble again

World of Warcraft Arena - Image 1

The Arena tournament is well on the road, but trouble is brewing again with the Arena point system. Now we know that Blizzard sorted things out with World of Warcraft‘s Arena point system before, including the ranking, but Setekh, a level 70 Rogue Night Elf and Lieutenant General, found out something odd with the current Arena point calculations.

If you play the recommended limit of 10 games on a 2 vs. 2 Arena match and win every one, the total points you earn is not enough against losing 10 5 vs. 5 matches consecutively. We’re pretty sure about what Blizzard meant by rewarding skill instead of time spent in the Arena, but there is little skill in losing, unless that is your skill.

On an average of 15 rating points per match, you could win 150 rating points but only grab 335 Arena points. In contrast, sacrificing 150 rating points (after 10 5 vs. 5 matches) helps you pick up 377 Arena points. That’s a 40% bonus on top of your Arena point earnings, and you don’t even have to bat an eye. As Setekh put it: “Hence you don’t even need skill to get more points in 5v5 than in 2v2, you just need 4 dumb friends.”

We’ll be checking on the WoW Forums for more updates and official statements regarding this matter. Hopefully, this problem could be sorted out soon.
