Uwe Boll on Far Cry movie and other future projects

Uwe BollUwe Boll is pretty much known within the gaming community. One of the things this director is famous for is his knack for taking video games and transforming them into big screen hits. He’s sometimes viewed as a renegade because he receives funding not from Hollywood studios but from, where else, videogame publishers. Not to mention that he sometimes get them from his own pocket as well.

Anyway, 2006 had been a busy year for the director but things are just about to get better. Especially now that the triumvirate of next-gen gaming is already out, we can expect more projects from Boll. But before he takes on other game franchises, the director fondly talks about BloodRayne. He mentioned:

If this sequel can match what the first film did on DVD, then there will definitely be a third movie. I like the franchise. The third one will be in the Second World War where the first game was based. We’ll likely film it in Eastern Europe to recreate those old German cities during WWII.

Aside from the previously mentioned Postal movie, Boll reminded everyone that he will make another based on Wii title Far Cry: Vengeance. The film will have a US$ 30 to US$ 40 million budget and will be filmed in Hawaii this May. Ubisoft, as of this point, has promised to help with the film’s finances. Boll, on the other hand, couldn’t hide his enthusiasm:

Every other game I did so far, the game makers were happy I did a movie to support their franchise. Ubisoft wants me to make a good movie because this is already a big franchise for them and they want to keep it going. I think they will be more involved in the whole process than the other companies before.

Furthermore, Boll hinted that the game would be released some time in 2008 alongside a sequel of the game. Finally, the German director disclosed that he passed the movie Alone in the Dark II to his writers.
