Way of the Rodent

Banish images of Splinter. Way of the Rodent is actually a game discussion thread. They have launched their first ever Way of the Rodent Awards featuring categories in Technical Achievement, Gameplay, In a Specific-Context Games of the Year, and Actual Game of the Year. Or make that Games of the Year.

They’ve listed their six most “important” games for 2006. They defined them as “the games that have made us want to play them the most by being different, phenomenally well-executed or just so damn fun that you canÂ’t stop.” They did set down some criteria and these managed to come up on top of their list.

  • New Super Mario Brothers (DS) – For sheer volume of invention within the genre
  • Ridge Racer 6 (360) – For perfectly balanced challenge and longevity of appeal
  • Black (PS2/Xbox) – For taking FPS back to the arcade
  • Guitar Hero I/II (PS2) – For fun, replay appeal and innovation
  • Loco Roco (PSP) – For smiles, collect-ability and gameplay charm
  • Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii) – For perfect-control, deep emotional connections and extraordinary assuredness

The Rodent Game Awards will be held in the Royal George, London on January 25.
