WiiConnect24 to be Disconnected in the UK?
Will a new law keep WiiConnect24, one of Nintendo Wii’s hyped new features, out of the UK?
Club Skill reports that the British Government is enforcing a new law which requires standby features of appliances to be slashed from product designs. Products mentioned include items like set-top boxes, chargers, televisions, and computers. Apparently, these and other similar items must be more energy-efficent, and standby features won’t be tolerated.
In case you don’t know, WiiConnect24 takes advantage of a standby mode that allows the Wii system to always be on. While it’s on, Nintendo and your friends can send messages to your system, interact with certain features, and send downloads to your system.
Why would this law ever hit the books, you ask? Well, the Government says standby features consume at least 8% of the UK’s energy each year. Yikes.
Will the new law mean Nintendo has to axe this feature in the UK? Let’s just hope the Wii can include all of its exciting new features in all regions.
