Your riding speed tops at +10%, sadly

If you were thinking of increasing your riding speed by an extra 19% with a ton of special items, think again. Drysc mentions that, even with the expansion, you can only get a maximum of +10% mount speed through magic collectibles.

This was due to a post on the WoW forums by Kolder of Kil’Jaeden. He was looking forward to combining the riding spurs, carrot on a stick, and mount speed enchantment for gloves from pre-expansion WoW with the expansion’s new riding crop for a combined increase of 19% to riding speed. Unfortunately Drysc, one of Blizzard‘s community managers, was quick to point out the limitations:

There’s not any current intention to allow either on-foot or mounted travel to be increased by items beyond 10% that each type of travel already allows. So regardless of what you have equipped you’re not going to get above 10%. The riding crop is really just a one stop replacement so you can clear out some space you might have been using for other speed increases. Hey, there’s the bag space solution you’ve been wanting! Enjoy.

While prices for the riding crop will probably vary among servers, level 69 users can perhaps save themselves some trouble by either making this with a 350 leatherworking skill, or buying it outright. Less need for quick switches, and you get to keep defensive enhancements and your best pair of gloves on while you ride out to the middle of Alterac Valley.

Of course, you could always use a paladin aura to speed that up…
