PS3 Prototypes at E3 Do Work

PlayStation3…And they’re not empty shells like the ones at E3 2005.

Sony had real PlayStation3 units running in their private demo booths. There were three working units in the Blu-ray booth, the Warhawk booth and the user interface booth where the consoles’ abilities could be sized up. They were also placed inside acrylic casing that had a hole on top for heat to escape and holes on the side for the three cords used for the demo – a power cord attached to an external strip, a USB cord attached to a PS3 controller and a cord connected to a Sony receiver unit.

There was also speculation about the fact that the consoles were placed inside acrylic casings. Perhaps this was done to muffle the noise of the PS3, as there had been rumors before that this console might be as quiet as the slimline PS2 at its own launch.

During the demos at E3, the PlayStation3 units demoed games on Sony SXRD displays to show the full potential of the next-gen consoles and also for maximum effect.
