Wii-playing cops sent to retraining

It’s one thing to be caught goofing off while looking for evidence, but it’s definitely something else to be playing with the drug dealer’s Wii – caught on tape, no less. For that, the undercover detectives will need to complete two hours of retraining, while the supervising sergeants get four.

“We are learning from our mistakes,” said sheriff’s Chief of Staff Gary Hester.

“I’m absolutely convinced these folks will never do that again. I think we handled (the investigation) appropriately.”

The police chief, Roger Boatner, agrees with the punishment given, saying, “It’s been investigated by the sheriff’s office and reviewed by the Lakeland Police Department, and we concur with the action taken against them,” he said, adding that “We hope this incident doesn’t overshadow all the hard work that went into the arrest.”
